Sheldon — Mystery Solved!
In my last blog, I mentioned that Sheldon had been going a little crazy over our new guest, Puba the Beagle, ever since she checked in. Well, today we finally uncovered the reason behind his sudden obsession!
We knew Puba was unspayed, but what we didn’t realize was that she had just started her heat cycle. That explains everything. Sheldon’s behavior wasn’t just random — it was pure nature calling, and not something he could control. Interestingly, he’s been perfectly fine with all the other female dogs in the house (and we have quite a few!), which really confirms it was all about Puba and her timing.
Of course, we don’t blame him one bit. To manage the situation, we’ve been keeping them separated — either giving Puba some “time out” or setting up different areas for them to hang out. Whenever they’re apart, Sheldon goes right back to being the sweet, playful boy he was when he first arrived.
I’ve even been trying to burn off some of that extra energy by playing with him more. He gets so into it that he grabs my sleeve with his big mouth in a playful way — it’s actually pretty adorable.
One thing I told Sheldon’s dad: I’m pretty sure he’s lost a pound or two since staying with us! Between all the playtime, exploring, and less napping compared to home, he’s getting a great workout every day. But judging by his big smile and those curious, sparkling eyes always searching for his next playmate, I’m convinced he’s loving every minute of it.
Now, a funny thing about Sheldon: he’s a huge water drinker. He makes quite the mess every time he takes a drink — I’m constantly refilling our giant 4L water bowl because otherwise, there wouldn’t be much left for the other pups! 😂
Other than that, he continues to have a great appetite, his potty schedule has become very predictable, and he’s loving all the random treats throughout the day. Sometimes he would have an air bubbler coming out of his mouth because he is drooling so hard over some treats LOL
When he’s not chasing tables with Puba (when they’re safely apart, of course), he enjoys trying to play with Hershey and Frasier. It’s absolutely heart-melting when he curls up and shares a bed with them.
