Ellie & Poppy: The Shy Sisters Keep Blooming
There may not be big changes to report today, but sometimes the quiet days are the most telling. Ellie and Poppy continue their slow and steady journey of social growth. They’ve found a bit of mischievous confidence lately—often seen tag-teaming against our resident goofball Hershey, and occasionally pulling Frasier into their little sisterly schemes. It’s heartwarming to watch their personalities unfold a bit more each day.
With the weather heating up, we decided to take it easy and let everyone enjoy a more relaxed pace indoors. But that doesn’t mean the day was uneventful! We treated the girls to a mini studio-style photo session. Poppy, ever the graceful model, posed like a seasoned pro. Ellie, on the other hand, was less impressed by the spotlight—darting out of frame as quickly as she could!

We’re continuing to upgrade our photography equipment and skills, so stay tuned for even more adorable portraits and keepsake moments. Many exciting things are in the works here at our little doggy retreat, and we’re so glad Ellie and Poppy are part of the journey.

Sister Sleepover: Poppy & Ellie’s Joyful Return
We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming back the adorable sister duo, Poppy and Ellie, for their second sleepover—and wow, what a difference a visit makes! Maybe it’s because they still remember all the fun they had not too long ago, but this time, they walked into our little resort like seasoned regulars. No whimpering, no hiding in their kennels—just confident, curious pups who picked up right where they left off.

They followed me straight through the backyard, where all the fun and friends awaited. It was heartwarming to see how much more comfortable and at home they felt.
Normally, we don’t accept more than three overnight guests at a time, but when their parents called last-minute for a quick trip, I simply couldn’t say no. Return guests hold a special place in our hearts—especially sweethearts like Poppy and Ellie. Their stay also marked a milestone for us: a new all-time record with three sibling guests in addition to our own Schnauzer siblings!

Add to the mix our regular daycare friends Ferguson and Tosey, plus Ringo wrapping up his week-long visit, and the house was full of tail wags and joyful barks. Of course, I made sure Poppy and Ellie’s parents were aware of the busy weekend ahead. Since they were still relatively new to socializing with other dogs before their first stay, it was important to set the right expectations.
But I’ve always trusted my instincts when it comes to doggy personalities—and I had no doubt these two would do just fine. And they did more than fine. This weekend of social fun turned out to be just what they needed. Every pup here was not only compatible in size but temperament, making it a perfectly balanced gathering.

Watching the once-shy sisters now confidently mingle, play, and casually stroll around the house and yard was incredibly rewarding. Poppy, in particular, made huge strides. On her first visit, she needed hand feeding and coaxing at mealtime. This time, all it took was a tiny sprinkle of topper and she happily finished her meals in one go. Ellie, of course, continues to be the enthusiastic eater—if we let her, she’d polish off two bowls!
They’ve also been much better about drinking water, clearly learning the importance of staying hydrated after all that play and exploration. And as always, Ellie insists on claiming my lap whenever I sit down, leaving Poppy to give me those irresistible puppy eyes, hoping for her turn. Ellie doesn’t quite believe in sharing, apparently!

Having Ellie so close brings back fond memories of our own tiny Chihuahua from years past. In fact, our current Schnauzer baby, Hershey, is lovingly named after her.
We’re so proud of Poppy and Ellie’s progress and so grateful to be part of their journey. It’s pups like these—growing, thriving, and feeling at home with us—that make every day so rewarding.
