Poppy & Ellie: Velcro Duo on Vacation
After spending more time with Poppy and Ellie at our little doggy resort, I can now say with 100% certainty: these two are the sweetest velcro dog duo you’ll ever meet. If I’m sitting anywhere, you can bet they’re right there with me. It doesn’t matter if it’s the couch, the floor, or the edge of the bed. If I’m still, they’re ready to settle in.
At first, it was a polite game of “first come, first snuggle.” One would hop into my lap, while the other sat beside me giving the classic puppy-eyed plea for her turn. But as the days went by, those polite rules quickly vanished. Now it’s a free-for-all—no matter who’s already curled up, the other will find a way to squeeze in. Sometimes they shuffle and nudge each other to claim the spot closest to my tummy, only to be outmaneuvered seconds later. It’s like a slow-motion game of lap-Tetris, and honestly? I love every second of it.
While they’re not the most playful pair when it comes to running around (I had high hopes for more cardio!), they are absolutely enjoying their peaceful, spa-like retreat. Still, we make sure to get a few backyard strolls in here and there to stretch our legs and breathe in some fresh air.
Today was a special day—they got to meet a couple of new friends! Colby and Panda stopped by to do a trial visit before their upcoming first overnight stay. Poppy and Ellie were wonderfully welcoming and got along just fine with the newcomers. It was heartwarming to see the girls lounge side-by-side with Colby and Panda like they’d been in the same crew for ages.
Now, let’s talk food. Ellie continues to eat like a champ—no issues there. Poppy, on the other hand, remains our picky little foodie. We’ve tried a rotating menu of toppers and portion tweaks, and while it worked for a while, nothing seems to work for today’s dinner. Not wanting her to go hungry, I offered her a bit of our own puppy food—and she ate it without hesitation, no toppers needed! So now, I’m back to the drawing board, planning out a creative (but healthy) meal plan for tomorrow to keep our girl happy and full.
All in all, Poppy and Ellie are soaking up the comfort, care, and cuddles like seasoned resort guests. It’s a joy to see them so relaxed and trusting—and I’m just happy to be their chosen lap for the week.
