Peanut’s Pack Life Surprise

I

When Peanut, a lovely middle-aged French Bulldog, first arrived at our little doggy resort, I honestly thought she might be a bit of a loner. On her first day, she quietly observed everything at her own pace, keeping to herself and not engaging much with the other pups. I assumed she was just shy. But at the same time, she showed no signs of nervousness—she ate her meals like a champ and drank plenty of water, which is always a good sign of comfort.

By day two, however, we saw a totally different side of Peanut—turns out she’s a true Velcro Frenchie! Not so much glued to me, but definitely devoted to the pack. She followed the group from room to room, curiously observing everyone’s play styles and eventually jumping right into the fun. She made so many new friends, but especially clicked with one of our regular guests, a playful young Bernedoodle. The two of them quickly became an adorable duo—teasing each other, playfully wrestling, and rolling around in our giant dog bed like they’d known each other for years. Maybe it’s because they were the only two who didn’t try to jump on the human bed, but they seemed to have formed a little pact—and it warmed my heart to see their bond grow each day.

When Peanut wasn’t engaged in play, she’d settle down with a favorite chew toy or gnaw on one of the many bones we keep around the house. And every now and then, she’d trot over with those soulful Frenchie eyes and let out a few signature barks—her way of asking for some back or belly rubs. She never demanded too much, just wanted a little moment of connection, and of course we were always happy to oblige.

I’m really happy Peanut found so many ways to have fun and feel at home here. It helped ease my guilt, as I had a number of household projects to juggle during her stay. Knowing she was relaxed, engaged, and surrounded by canine friends made all the difference.

She was a joy to have around—gentle, playful, and full of little surprises. Our home felt just a little warmer with her in it, and we truly hope she felt the same way.
