Abby & Iris: A Sweet Slow Bloom

It’s been six days since Abby and Iris arrived for their first sleepover, and watching them slowly come out of their shells has been such a rewarding experience.

Their first day was quiet and cautious—they took their time observing the house, the sounds, and us. But little by little, they’ve been opening up in their own unique ways. Iris, the more reserved of the two, has found her cozy spots. She absolutely loves lounging in the sunshine that pours through our master bedroom window and has claimed the spot next to the bathtub as her go-to nap zone. She also adores cuddling with my mom, and you can tell she feels safe and comforted in those gentle moments.

Abby, on the other hand, is a bit more curious. About half the time, she’ll venture out to see what we’re up to—especially if she suspects treats are involved! She’s definitely a foodie, always hopeful that something tasty is coming her way. And she’s made incredible progress. Early on, she was nervous—so much so that just reaching out a hand made her anxious. But now, she’ll happily stand up and place her paws on my legs just to get my attention. It’s such a sweet change and a sign that she’s beginning to trust and feel at home.

In the cooler hours of early morning and late evening, I still try to give them both a bit of gentle exercise. They’ve now mastered our doggy door, and I often hear the soft jingle of tags as they go in and out, exploring the side yard just for fun. Sometimes it feels like they’re just stepping out for a quick giggle before coming back inside—it’s adorable.

Iris has also made wonderful progress with her meals. She was hesitant at first, picking at her food, but now she finishes everything in one go and waits eagerly at mealtimes. Abby’s always been a good eater, and while I’m still gently encouraging them to stay hydrated, I know Abby’s drinking when she needs to.

When bedtime comes, the house falls into peaceful silence. Both Abby and Iris sleep soundly through the night, no fuss or restlessness—just calm, content pups.

All in all, they’re doing great. Their slow and steady adjustment has turned into comfort, curiosity, and affection. This first sleepover has been a gentle success, and it’s been such a joy to watch their personalities begin to shine.
