Meet Ophelia: A Soulful Corgi with a Gentle Spirit

I

Every now and then, a dog comes into our home unexpectedly and leaves an immediate mark on our hearts. Ophelia, a beautiful Cardigan Welsh Corgi, is one of those dogs.

She joined us as a last-minute addition to our temporary pack. Normally, we limit our home to no more than three pups at a time to ensure everyone gets the love and attention they deserve—but Ophelia’s case was special. Her dad, stuck overseas and in a tough situation, was desperately searching for a trustworthy, loving place for her to stay. Knowing the circumstances, we made an exception. And I’m so glad we did.

From the very first moment we met her, I could feel her sweet, gentle nature. She’s calm and quiet, but her eyes—oh, her eyes—are incredibly soulful. There’s something in her gaze that speaks of deep emotion and quiet longing, a spark of sadness that may come from not having seen her parents in nearly three months. It’s as if her eyes are clinging to you, asking for reassurance, yet filled with trust.

Ophelia is clearly a well-loved pup. Her coat is spotless, soft, and clean—a clear sign she’s been pampered. She’s also quite the picky eater, which made me suspect she’s been treated to a fair amount of human food in the past. For nearly 24 hours, she refused to eat anything, no matter what I offered—three brands of kibble and at least five kinds of treats. Thankfully, she stayed well hydrated, drinking plenty of water throughout the day.

By the next afternoon, she finally gave in a little. After mixing her kibble with a bit of tasty canned food, she started eating. She didn’t finish the whole portion, but she ate most of it, which felt like a small but meaningful win.

Ophelia’s energy level is low, but there’s something graceful about her slow, steady pace. She moves with a sense of calm maturity, confident but never demanding. And even though she’s only been here for a day, she’s already woven herself into our little family. She follows us quietly from room to room, never wanting to be alone—which, of course, she never will be in our doggy resort.

Ophelia may have arrived unexpectedly, but she is absolutely meant to be here. And we’re honored to be her home away from home during this chapter of her life.
