Ophelia’s First Few Days: A Quiet Beauty with a Sweet Soul

It’s been a couple of days since Ophelia arrived, and I can honestly say—she is just so lovable. From the very moment she quietly followed me into the car, with her soft smile and those soulful eyes, she’s been a gentle shadow by my side. She doesn’t demand attention with noise or mischief—she simply stays close, quietly following me from room to room with her calm presence.

Aside from being a bit picky with her food, Ophelia has fully relaxed and blended into our family. Even my two Mini Schnauzer babies, who usually bark a bit when a newcomer arrives, welcomed her with hardly a fuss. While her energy level doesn’t quite match their playful pace, they don’t seem to mind letting her steal the spotlight whenever I’m sitting on the couch or at my desk. She’s not overly active, but she is always nearby—waiting patiently for a belly rub or a gentle pet on the back.

After settling in for a few days, Ophelia has started to explore more and even get a little playful—grabbing random toys around the house or flopping belly-up for a good nap. She’s also revealed herself to be a big fan of car rides. I had the joy of picking her up, and it quickly became clear she’s the type of pup who loves sticking her head out the window, soaking in all the sights and scents. So yes, I’ve made quite the exception and taken her on multiple long drives already—she absolutely loved it. We even visited a nearby park with my two pups, and she looked so happy rolling in the grass. Our home is xeriscaped with no carpet, so I think she was really enjoying the feel of that soft, green lawn under her belly.

Her appetite has improved too. She still isn’t interested in the kibble she came with, but she’s started to enjoy the Blue Buffalo lamb puppy food that my dogs eat. I suspect she was a little spoiled by her family—during her first few meals, she wouldn’t touch her bowl unless I hand-fed her. I hand-fed her four meals straight! But today, she finally gave in and ate from the bowl on her own. I’m guessing she’s realizing it’s not only easier—but also delicious!

Ophelia is such a sweet, quiet girl. Every now and then, she’ll let out this soft, alto-like bark when she hears someone moving on the other side of the house—not loud or frequent, just gentle little woofs that are honestly pretty cute. My hope is to get her a little more active over time. She does love her naps, but with my two pups around and a bit of encouragement, I think she’ll be more engaged. Plus, with the right food and some fun outings, she might shed a few pounds, which would be great for her health.

She’s also been doing wonderfully with her potty breaks—even after switching to our puppy food. In fact, her digestion has improved since arriving, which is a relief, especially considering my two pups had a few upset tummies when they first transitioned to this brand.

All in all, Ophelia is doing great. She’s beautiful, inside and out, and incredibly photogenic too—I’ve already captured so many precious moments of her in just a few short days. I’m looking forward to many more in the week ahead!
