Lucy, the adorable mini doodle who could easily pass as Ringo’s cousin, has been visiting us for daycare on and off for a while now, but this trip marked her very first sleepover with us. Her blog is long overdue—not because she isn’t special, but because I’ve been waiting for the right moment when her story could truly be told.

To be honest, I was a little concerned about how Lucy might adapt to her first overnight stay. In her previous daycare visits, she often preferred to quietly keep to herself, lounging in a corner with a shy but sweet demeanor. Each visit showed small signs of progress—tiny glimpses of trust and curiosity—but it was happening slower than I anticipated.

This time, though, she surprised me right from drop-off. Her tail wagged, she drank water with ease, and she accepted every meal and treat offered—three of the clearest signs a pup is comfortable and happy. There was no nervous pacing or stressed whimpers; she seemed to know she was in a safe place.

Inside the house, Lucy is still a little reserved, but she now chooses to follow us around and settle close by when I’m at my desk. The biggest change, though, comes when we head outside. Watching Ringo, her “fetch superstar cousin,” chase down balls with Olympic-level enthusiasm seemed to spark something in her. You could almost see her thinking about joining in, as if she’s right on the edge of discovering her inner playful side.

Because Lucy is naturally quiet and so well-behaved, we gave her the freedom to roam even at night. She had the option of curling up in the living room or following us into our room to rest in her own bed. She didn’t give us any trouble at all—just a calm, respectful presence in the home.
With more time and future visits, I have no doubt Lucy will continue to blossom and fully join in with our two Schnauzer hosts. This first sleepover felt like an important step for her, and I can already see a more confident, curious Lucy emerging. We can’t wait to see how she grows with each visit.
