Henri’s Day Two: From Quiet Corners to Social Circles
What a difference a day makes! Today, Henri showed us a whole new side of his personality. The morning started off slow for him. After our early potty breaks, Henri made it very clear that it was far too early for his liking. While I got the day started with the other pups, he made the executive decision to hop back into bed with my wife and catch a couple more hours of sleep. Honestly, we don’t blame him—he’s on his own schedule, and that’s perfectly fine.
That later start actually works well, since Henri’s feeding routine is a bit different from the rest of the pack. Around 8am, he emerged from his cozy spot and began to truly engage with the world around him. Unlike yesterday, Henri didn’t retreat to his quiet corner—instead, he spent the day mingling with the other dogs, sniffing around different corners of the house, and keeping an eye on the kitchen just in case.
The real highlight came when we all headed out to the backyard. Henri was especially lively, even showing a flash of puppy-like energy when he trotted after a bird that flew overhead. It was a joy to watch him feel comfortable enough to explore and play alongside his new friends.
By the afternoon, he was clearly a little tired from the day’s adventures, but he still chose to hang out with everyone in the living room. He even followed me over to my desk and settled in next to me while I typed up this update—proof that he’s starting to see this place (and us) as part of his circle.
He polished off his dinner in one sitting tonight, which tells me the day’s activities were just the right amount of stimulation. For a senior dog who may not have had many social experiences like this in the past, Henri is handling this beautifully. It’s heartwarming to see him open up, and we feel so lucky to be part of this special journey with him.
