Our latest cute guest – Duke
We’re so excited to welcome a new face to the pack—everyone, meet Duke! He’s a nearly 12-year-old Chihuahua and Yorkshire Terrier mix, and while he may be one of our more senior guests, you’d never guess it from his energy and spirit. He’s young at heart and sharp as ever.
At his very first meet and greet, Duke made quite the entrance by getting into a spirited (and very vocal) barking contest with our Frasier Jr. Honestly, we think Duke might’ve come out on top in that one—which is saying something! That moment told us right away: this little guy’s got confidence and personality to spare.
Today marked Duke’s first official daycare day with us, and like many pups, he started out a bit anxious. It’s never easy being apart from your person, and for the first hour or so, he gently roamed around the house, clearly searching for his mommy. Totally understandable, and we were more than ready to show him some extra love and care.
Duke is such a sweet little guy with the most endearing face, you can’t help but fall for him. My wife adored him right from the start, and between all of us, we made sure he felt right at home. Since one of the main reasons his mommy chose our doggy resort was so he wouldn’t feel lonely while they’re away, we made it our mission to give him the company and comfort he deserves.

Though he didn’t show much interest in joining the chase games with the younger crew, he quickly found his rhythm following me around the house. When I sat down to get some computer work done, there he was—loyal and curious, sticking close by. Every now and then, he’d ask to hop into my lap for some snuggles and face kisses. Honestly, not a bad work buddy at all.
Throughout the day, Duke was such a good boy—no accidents in the house at all. He took his potty breaks regularly outside, like a seasoned pro. The only area that gave me a little concern was his appetite. His mom did warn us that he’s quite the picky eater, but my heart still feels uneasy when he refuses everything we offer—kibble, treats, beef toppers, even wet food. The one thing he does like? Those Costco dried chicken treats. And he really likes them. Once he warmed up to me, he would happily eat however much I gave—but of course, we have to be responsible and not let those puppy eyes win us over completely.
We’re hopeful this is just part of his first-day adjustment period, and that once he realizes this is a fun, safe space, he’ll feel more comfortable and settle into a better eating routine.

On a positive note, Duke had no trouble figuring out our splash-proof water bowl. Some dogs take a day or two to figure it out, but not Duke—hydration hero from day one! His water intake was steady all day, which gave me some peace of mind.
I truly hope Duke had a great time here with us. We already feel a special connection with him and look forward to welcoming him back as part of our extended daycare family. There’s definitely a place for him in our hearts (and on my lap, apparently!).
