Panda & Colby’s Third Stay: Familiar Faces, Endless Energy, and a Whole Lot of Fun
We were thrilled to welcome back Panda and Colby for their third stay at our little doggy resort, especially during a week that had more than its fair share of unexpected human chaos behind the scenes. With a full house and some curveballs to manage, it was a real blessing to have these two seasoned guests back in the mix—familiar faces who already knew the drill, and even more importantly, already knew many of the other pups in the house!

Both Panda and Colby slipped into vacation mode with barely any effort, thanks to a mix of old friends and, of course, our in-house Schnauzer concierge duo—Hershey and Frasier Jr.—who always know how to welcome returning VIPs.

Colby did give us a little barky performance upon arrival, sounding as if he were already missing his parents before they even made it to the car. But like clockwork, about 15 minutes after check-in, his tail started wagging and he was following me and the pack around as if he’d never left. Once Colby settles in, he’s our low-key sweetheart—preferring to lounge on the bed beside us or claim one of the fluffiest dog beds in the house as his personal throne. He has also formed quite the bromance with Ringo the mini doodle and Ferguson the terrier mix—both frequent guests here. Watching Colby follow Ringo around like a devoted sidekick is adorable, and his playful paw-boxing sessions with Ferguson always earn a laugh.

Panda, on the other hand, lives life like every day is his first trip to Disneyland. Everything and everyone fascinates him. Despite being a young pup, he doesn’t nap much (if at all). No matter what hour I quietly sneak out of bed for a middle-of-the-night bathroom break, there he is—wide awake and right behind me, as if it’s party time. And like clockwork every morning at 6 a.m., Panda is the first one up, ready to rally the troops for another round of fun.

Throughout the day, Panda’s social battery seems endless. He makes his way through the pack, inviting each dog to play one-on-one until someone gives in. And when someone isn’t interested? No problem—he just moves on to his next potential buddy. The great thing is, while his energy is constant, it’s also well-matched to the group. He doesn’t go overboard with barking or zoomies like some other high-energy pups we’ve seen. It’s a steady, friendly kind of enthusiasm that somehow works with the flow of the house.

Interestingly, Panda and Colby don’t actually spend much time together here. They each carve out their own unique experience—Panda being the forever-on-tour social butterfly, and Colby opting for more one-on-one connections or quiet time.

Now, let’s talk mealtime. Panda is, without a doubt, the messiest eater we’ve ever had. Every meal is an invitation for ants unless I sweep through the area—and fast. The rest of the gang has unofficially been promoted to the “clean-up crew,” swooping in to handle the fallout from his scattered kibble. Getting Panda to focus at mealtime takes real effort—I often have to stand by him, repeatedly pointing at the bowl until he gives me a look of complete disinterest and trots off like he’s too cool for food. And water? This boy drinks more than any Frenchie we’ve hosted—easily four liters a day, if not more!

Despite their different personalities, Panda and Colby both bring something truly special to the group. Watching them settle into their third trip here with confidence, comfort, and connection (in their own ways) has been a joy during an otherwise hectic week. We’re so happy to be their home away from home and can’t wait for their next visit!
