Today’s blog is a short and sweet one, featuring a very special last-minute guest—Charlie, a beautiful mix of Cocker Spaniel, Border Collie, and Golden Retriever. Normally, we’re pretty selective with the size and energy level of dogs we host, especially with our current full house. But sometimes, you just have to follow your heart.

I received a message early this morning—Charlie’s original sitter had cancelled last minute, and his dad was about to head out of town while his mom had errands to run. They were both coming in from out of town, and in this brutal summer heat, the idea of Charlie being stuck somewhere uncomfortable was just not something I could turn away from.

Charlie was only with us for a few hours, but even in that short time, he made a strong impression. Despite the busy projects on my plate and a house full of pups, Charlie handled his visit like a true gentleman. When we first came in, the little ones did what they always do—bark and act like they run the place. Charlie didn’t flinch. He simply observed with curiosity, wagging his tail and giving them space, all while exploring the house and backyard calmly and politely.

Although I didn’t get the chance to spend the kind of quality time I usually dedicate to each guest, Charlie made it easy. His mellow temperament and respectful demeanor gave off a peaceful energy that actually helped balance the day.

As promised to his family, I captured a few quick shots of this handsome guy during his short stay. I wish we had more time to get to know each other better, but for what it’s worth, Charlie—you are welcome back anytime.
Stay cool out there, buddy.
