Beau the Blur: When Speed Meets Sweetness

I

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to have the Energizer Bunny visit your home, with the speed of a greyhound and the zoomies of a lifetime, let me introduce you to Beau, our young Whippet guest who quite literally doesn’t have an “off” switch

From the moment Beau trotted back into our home, it was like flipping a switch from “normal puppy fun” to high-speed action mode. We love all our guests, but I’ll be the first to admit—no one, not even our spirited Schnauzer siblings Hershey and Frasier Jr., can quite keep up with Beau’s pace. Not even close.

While Frasier Jr. looked on in wide-eyed awe, probably wondering if Beau had rocket boosters in his paws, fearless little Hershey was ready for the challenge. 💪 She even went a few rounds in a tug-of-war match! But let’s be real—the strength difference was laughably lopsided, even if Hershey would never admit it. (She’s got heart, and that’s what counts!)

Beau doesn’t just run—he engages. From the second he arrived, he was zooming around, picking out every toy in the house like it was his job, his joy radiating through every bounce and tail wag. Luckily, I was a bit better prepared this time. We had sturdier chew options—antlers and hard bones—so my soft toy collection didn’t vanish in record time like during his last visit.

That said, soft toys still made their way into his play rotation. But what did Beau really want? Friends. Playmates. Partners in chaos. So I extended their backyard playtime way beyond the usual, because let’s be honest—there’s just not enough square footage inside to contain his 0-to-60-in-five-seconds lifestyle.

One of Beau’s would-be playmates was young Mowgli, our regular Labradoodle pup. As spirited as Mowgli is, at just 4 months old, he was not prepared for the Beau Blitz. After a few taunts and fast chases, Mowgli started whimpering and seeking refuge, sometimes flopping over dramatically mid-run. As funny as it looked, I stepped in quickly to separate them and provide a calm, safe space for the little guy, because as always, safety and stress-free vibes come before anything else at our little doggy resort.

After an action-packed morning, he curled up next to me on the daybed, showering me with kisses like we were old friends. (I think he remembered me from his first stay—sweetest moment ever!) Once that initial surge of energy burned off, he transformed into the most chill, affectionate pup, happy to lie in the sun with the pack and just enjoy the moment.

In fact, I ended up dozing off for a bit with all the pups snoozing peacefully around me. It was one of those picture-perfect afternoons—warm breeze, blue skies, happy dogs—that make living and caring for pups in the Biggest Little City feel like pure magic.

As for Beau? After polishing off his lunch like a champ and guzzling plenty of water, he’s gearing up for dinner and a snuggly evening in front of the TV. If you ask me, I think we both earned some couch time.
